Weleda has a long history, which goes all the way back to 1921 and the anthrosophy movement and the philosopher Dr. Rudolf Steiner. The anthrosophy movement encourages people to see their body and spirit as linked to our world as part of one holistic system. Steiner and Dr. Ita Wegman developed an approach to health care using natural ingredients that can holistically work with and support our own body’s healing tendencies, and they did so by creating a Biodynamic® garden.
The company was named Weleda after the Celtic goddess of wisdom and healing, and today Weleda has offices in more than 50 countries. Weleda still cultivates their own Biodynamic® gardens, and the company still believes natural ingredients provide what a body needs to be at its best.
